MANILA, Philippines – Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces another legal trouble after reportedly failing to pay his income taxes starting 2009.
In a report by The Detroit News, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the US bureau responsible for tax collections, recently charged Mayweather with liabilities of up to $3.4 million.
This is the second time the IRS has charged the controversial boxer for unpaid taxes—the first time being in 2009.
Mayweather then owed the IRS $6.2 million, which was accumulated from his unpaid taxes since 2007.
The undefeated boxer, however, agreed to pay the bill at a later date.
Other pending faults
Apart from the reported IRS suit, the 34-year-old boxer also has more legal charges to settle.
This April 25 (April 26, in Manila), he is expected to attend a battery trial, wherein he was accused of poking a security guard's face late last year.
He is also set to attend a hearing on domestic violence charges, including felony counts of grand larceny, coercion and robbery, this April 28. This was after the boxing superstar reportedly threatened and beat his former girlfriend, Josie Harris, last September.
Apart from the mentioned cases, Mayweather is also facing defamation charges filed by Filipino boxing rival Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao has included Mayweather’s father, Floyd Sr.; his uncle, Roger; Golden Boy Promotions owner Oscar de la Hoya; and GBP chief executive officer Richard Schaefer, in the lawsuit.
